Powered by a dual-core 880 MHz MIPS1004Kc processor and equipped with 256 MB DDR3 system memory along with 256 MB NAND storage, it delivers efficient routing and firewall performance. The device features five independent Gigabit RJ45 ports with passive PoE support, including configurations for PoE input and passthrough to power other network devices.

The EdgeRouter X supports flexible power options, running off either a 12V DC 0.5A power adapter or 24V passive PoE input. It also includes a PoE passthrough port to power a single compatible device when powered via 24V passive PoE, making it ideal for network setups requiring consolidated cable runs.

Configuration is streamlined via the intuitive EdgeOS graphical user interface, suitable for both beginners and advanced users, offering a powerful command-line interface.
